The Weekend
Our Story

Two lives, one Umbrian weekend

We want to thank you for accepting our invitation to celebrate our marriage. In all honesty, for us this is so much more than a chance to get married. We're so aware of how much we have to be grateful for in life, and we take nothing for granted. Celebrating our love for each other is the trigger for the event — but we really want to celebrate our families, and of course you, our friends of so many years.

A marriage in early middle age brings so much history together, and we're both blessed to have such friends to have shared those memories with. To bring everyone together in such an amazing venue is something we treasure, and we want everyone to relax, take the time our busy lives don't always allow, enjoy each other's company, and let us thank you all — with a weekend to remember.

There are many reasons we have chosen this location, one of them is the amount of accommodation on site. We would love to have everyone able to enjoy the location without the stresses of lots of taxi rides to and from the Castello. We also hope that being on site together will give us all the time we want to catch up with so many friends who have travelled from all around the world. So if you can face some glamping — they really are nicely done, by the way — then it would be great to have everyone there together.

…a weekend to remember.

The Venue

Castello di Petrata

A restored medieval castle set in the hills just outside Assisi, looking out over the Umbrian valley. Stone walls, olive groves, and views that have barely changed in five hundred years — it's the reason we chose this corner of Italy for the wedding.

There's plenty of parking on site, and for the whole weekend all our guests are welcome to use the venue's facilities — the pool, the tennis court, the grounds to wander, and a spa where treatments can be booked in advance. Make the most of it and relax on site any time you like.

Getting There

Travel

A few routes into Umbria — check current flight schedules before booking, as regional airport routes can be limited.

Nearest

Perugia Airport

Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Airport is the closest, roughly 20–30 minutes' drive from Assisi. Routes are limited, so check what's flying before relying on it.

Most Options

Rome

Fiumicino or Ciampino give the widest choice of flights from the UK. From Rome it's roughly a 2–2.5 hour drive or train-plus-taxi to Assisi.

Alternative

Florence

A good alternative for a pre-wedding stop in Tuscany, with a drive of around 2 hours south to Assisi.

Once You're Here

Transfers to the Castello

The Castello works with a trusted local transfer company that can run cars between guest accommodation and the venue for the Welcome Dinner and the Wedding Day — pick-up timed to each event, and return cars looping roughly every 30 minutes as the evening winds down.

Where to Stay

Accommodation

We'd love as many of you as possible to stay right on site — there are a few rooms available in the Castello, which family will be staying in, and glamping available at the Castello itself, alongside plenty of accommodation nearby if it fills up or you fancy a change of scene. Prices below are indicative, per person, from the venue's supplier list — always confirm current rates on the property's own site.

At the Castello

On site

Rooms and glamping right at the venue — wake up where the wedding is, with the pool, tennis court and spa on your doorstep all weekend. Each tent sleeps two, and is an experience in the middle of nature but with all the comforts of the venue — comfortable restrooms, breakfast in the hotel, and full use of the facilities. €160 per tent for the two nights, including VAT.

Good to Know

Frequently Asked

Friday's Pizza Party is casual and fun — come ready to swim (Sam will be going full sequins, but you don't have to match; Jonny probably won't, though it's not out of the question). For Saturday, we've pushed the ceremony later in the afternoon so it's cooler — Sam will be in a wedding dress, Jonny in a linen suit and open shirt. The grounds are gravel paths and lawn, so beware of stilettos. We want everyone relaxed, comfortable and elegant — just don't try to upstage the bride. Sunday is poolside clothes and swimmers. No mankinis.

Umbrian summers run hot and dry — typically high 20s to mid 30s°C in the day, cooling pleasantly in the evening. Sun cream and a light layer for after dark are worth packing.

We know some of you are planning to make a family holiday of the wedding weekend, and we'd love to see the kids there. Sadly we're not able to host children at the Saturday wedding supper, but for a small contribution (guests are already covered) we'd love to see them at the Pizza Party on Friday — and of course they're welcome to glamp and use the facilities at the venue throughout. For teenagers, the venue's kindly offered to put together something simple to eat in a separate, reserved area while the adults are at the ceremony and dinner on Saturday, so they're well looked after and comfortable without needing to sit through the formal evening — just let us know if that would help.

Your presence is our present — thank you in advance.
